82nd Street Academics seeks instructors for our Pre-School Program in Queens, NY. We are proud to be an organization that primarily hires from within, this starts with our Assistant Teachers. We seek an Assistant Teacher that will qualify in the near future to become a Lead Teacher. This position is designed for candidates that are actively pursuing their initial certification in Early Childhood Education. On the job training in our school culture will lead to a lead teacher classroom position within five months. Completion of initial certification not required to receive promotion to lead teacher.
The participants in the program are at maximum 20 students ranging in age from 2 to 4 years old. The goal of our program is to provide the academic and social support needed to help students develop the skills required to successfully lay a foundation for a college education. We achieve these goals by providing a holistic program that includes early approaches to academic material and social emotional growth. We are a team oriented environment, each staff member's experiences are a valued part of our approach towards education for all students.
The hours of this position are Monday- Friday 7:30AM- 4:15PM. There are bi-weekly meetings and professional developments that may occur outside of these hours. During the orientation period, there is some flexibility built into the schedule.
Rate of Pay: $15 - $18 per hour depending on previous experience and related education. Candidate must be currently working towards obtaining their initial certification in early childhood education.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:
-Provide leadership on a day to day basis for a class of preschool students. Instructors are representatives of our agency in the school and are responsible for maintaining the culture of the school.
-Support implementation of lesson plans. Much of our planning is based on Common Core Learning Standards and takes place in exploration of learning centers!
- Monitoring and keeping a clean space and safe at all times.
-Following the schedule provided, interactive orientation period will include changes in day to day routines while learning the culture of our program.
-Ensure student safety and attendance to the program at all times. Instructors are a role model for our students. Everyone on our team must be outstanding in adherence to policies on attendance and punctuality, dress code, and setting a tone of respect in interactions with students, colleagues and families.
-Communicate with parents when there is a concern that must be resolved. Provide excellent customer service and a professional, caring demeanor.
