Job Description:
The Youth Counselor II is responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in their care. The provide supervision to resident within the boundaries of the program; intervene, when necessary as well as process incidents. The Youth Counselor II is also responsible for documentation responsibilities i.e. incident reports,, behavioral reports, etc. and identifying the strengths and areas of growth a resident may have in regards to personal, social or daily living skills. This person will also teach and encourage resident participation in therapeutic recreational and community activities and assist them with their academic responsibilities. They will be a role model and coach youth on pro-social behaviors in both recreational and educational environments and supports constructive resident-family visitation and involvement in community activities. This person will also have medication administration responsibilities.
In this position you will:
Provide supervision of youth and ensure overall safety for youth, colleagues and self.
Collaborate with fellow Youth Counselors, Senior Counselors, Site Supervisors, Social Workers and youth to provide team led, person centered care.
Preform duties professionally with the highest of integrity and communication.
Serve as a mentor and role model by demonstrating appropriate social interactions and implementing approved crisis intervention techniques and strategies as needed.
Complete and review documentation, in accordance with regulations and policies.
Provide transportation for youth to various sites in the community utilizing an agency vehicle.
Provide Independent Living Skills (ILS) development programming as assigned by means of:
Health Maintenance – supports youth in achieving optimal health, which may include scheduling medical appointments, medication administration as prescribed by a doctor and healthy meal planning and preparation
Money Management- handling youth personal allowance and petty cash.
Household Maintenance- ensures routine household maintenance gets completed as needed, which may include meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, physical plant upkeep, and personalization of bedroom areas.
Personal Care– supports youth with all personal care needs.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications:
-Minimum age requirement of 21
-Must demonstrate leadership, compassion and consistency
-Must meet physical requirements, which may include, but not limited to lifting greater than 50 lbs., walking long periods/distances, running and physically intervening/restraining when prudent.
-Bachelor’s Degree with no Experience
-Associates in a related field with some experience
-All others, minimum 2 years’ experience working with children
