Position Summary

Argus Media is seeking a Corporate Energy Reporter for its Americas news team to write a combination of breaking news for the daily wire and longer analysis for our flagship weekly publications in London. This is a high-profile writing position at Argus, covering topics in the oil and gas business that include mergers and acquisitions, earnings, costs and spending, new projects and crude futures markets. It will also provide company profiles and contribute to front-page editorials.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coverage of the largest US oil and gas companies, and the US operations of international companies.
  • Writing real-time news and analysis for online and big-picture trend stories for a weekly publication.
  • Developing and maintaining rapport with key contacts and liaising regularly with industry stakeholders.
  • Seek out exclusive interviews with top executives and key stakeholders.
  • Coverage of oil futures markets and write other daily news and feature stories.
  • Synthesizing complex information quickly.
  • Maintaining existing databases and building new databases for designated products.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • The legal authorization to work in the US for any US employer.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, economics, business or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of daily journalism experience, a significant portion of which has been spent covering the oil and gas industry.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Strong reporting, writing and math skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks on a tight daily deadline.
  • Demonstrated goal-oriented collaboration skills, with strong diplomatic and problem-solving ability.
  • A basic understanding of economics.
  • A commitment to the highest level of accuracy and professional ethics.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite with particular experience in Excel.
  • Ability to travel 5-15% of the time to cover conferences and interview executives.
