What does an Grant Accountant do at companies like CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE?

Perform various tasks in support of the College's accounting system which requires the understanding and regular use of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and decision making based upon a formal body of knowledge concerning accounting concepts, methods and procedures. Assist in providing leadership, management, and control of the College's district-wide accounting functions.
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  • Supervise, maintain, and develop grants accounting subsystem functions. Monitor and prepare reports for all restricted funds (e.g. federal, state, and local grants). Assist supervisor in identifying potential problems and revising budgets.
  • Meet with grant managers and others to analyze financial data and to maintain compliance with grant rules and regulations. Provide technical assistance to grant personnel regarding purchasing, budgeting, and accounting questions/problems.
  • Prepare billings and electronic drawdowns for restricted funds grants and contracts. Prepare invoices and/or authorizes credit for services rendered in relation to specific educational programs.
  • Gather and compile financial and statistical data (e.g. expenditures, cash flow, and billing information); review and analyzes data for cost distribution and budget control; post/records entries into appropriate journals, and prepare reports detailing information.
  • Recommend/implement improvements and enhancements to existing accounting procedures and processes relating to grants management.
  • Provide post-award orientations/training to new grant personnel including financial management and reporting.
  • Attend professional development training and stay abreast of the Office of Management and Budget Uniform Grant Guidance 2 CFR 200 and their applicability to grants management related to single audits.
  • Develop, update, and disseminate information to ensure compliance with all requirements of externally funded programs.
  • Serve as resident expert on grant compliance.
  • Audit individual grants to ensure compliance with both College and Grantors.  Bring instances of non-compliance to the attention of appropriate personnel.  Design and execute monitoring processes, including site visits, collecting and analyzing data, documenting results, and identifying and discussing implications.
  • Assist with the accounting for the Central Arizona College Foundation and other various accounting responsibilities.
  • May supervise and review the performance of accountant clerks. Supervision includes training, work assignment and review, employee evaluation and discipline, and making hiring and termination recommendations
EDUCATION:   Bachelor's degree
           
EXPERIENCE:    Two (2) years of applicable experience
 
SALARY:    Minimum entry annual salary is $48,026.00.

Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited course work by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

The level of background verification for this position is: Standard + Credit
  • Knowledge of current principles, concepts, and practices of governmental management and factors/processes affecting financial relations between the College and various levels of government.
  • Knowledge and skill in specific processes, polices, and procedures concerning fiscal control/processing operations.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to financial reports and records.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Knowledge of governmental accounting policies and procedures.
  • Mathematical and record keeping skills necessary to proof a variety of financial transactions, verify accuracy, match against documentation, code to proper accounts, prepare necessary forms, post transactions, reconcile balances, and generate a variety of financial reports.
  • Skill in the operation of computer accounting systems, word processing applications, spreadsheets, and database manipulation.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of team to apply workflow processes to meet deadlines imposed by fiscal cycles.
  • Ability to apply a variety of management and leadership techniques to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Effective interpersonal skill as applied to interaction with a culturally diverse populations, college administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.
