Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory work in the facility operations of the City parks within the City of Sunny Isles Beach.

Position Scope:
This is a management support position.

This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.  Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. 

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for facility maintenance (indoors and outdoors).
  • Monitor all park activities and enforce City rules and regulations by taking actions ranging from counseling to issuing warnings. Monitor work activities of employees to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of the facility maintenance budget; submit budget recommendations; submit justifications for equipment.
  • Monitor and control supplies and equipment inventory; order supplies and tools as necessary.
  • Train or coordinate training for employees in facility maintenance and safety methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment. Prevent vandalism through close supervision of visitor activities.
  • Coordinate construction projects, remodels, and other special projects, to include soliciting bids for contracts, and participating in the selection of contractors. Coordinate with contractors/vendors in providing services, to ensure service levels are maintained and costs are in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
  • Respond to public inquiries and resolve compliance issues regarding permits at picnic areas, community centers, parks and athletic facilities;
  • Provide information and assistance to the public regarding City services, programs, and special interest areas/facilities;
  • Maintain work logs and prepare written reports of incidents, accidents, maintenance issues or other occurrences; Review written reports of employees to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Assists with departmental special events; Provide basic first aid and CPR and emergency management for park incidents; Report criminal activity and/or vandalism to the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department;
  • Supervises in the using of hand tools and equipment and a variety of machines safely and efficiently to assist with repair tasks or general maintenance.
  • Handle maintenance responsibilities within the grounds area of all City property and parks. This includes operating and maintaining equipment or power tools such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, pressure washers, blowers, etc. Pick up trash, sweep the walk areas and entrances around all facilities as needed.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to include plumbing, electrical, painting, and mechanical, etc. (e.g. replace light bulbs, repair fixtures, snake drains, replace defective switches or fuses).  Possess enough general knowledge to recognize and resolve any emergency situation, with regard to maintenance (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Handle maintenance responsibilities within the facility housekeeping area. This includes cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing rest rooms; sweeping and vacuuming floors and carpets; mopping, scrubbing, waxing and cleaning carpets and floors; emptying trash cans and waste bins; cleaning and dusting office furniture, walls and windows.
  • Operate and maintain City vehicles as assigned to include washing, waxing and preventative maintenance.
  • Identifies opportunity for cost control measures in the delivery of all services and functions in his/her department and under his/her area of responsibility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • General knowledge of principles and practices of park security. Knowledge of radio procedures, resource and referral information; Knowledge of recreation services policies and procedures, regulations, codes and ordinances as they relate to park usage. Knowledge of business letter writing; basic mathematics and computer knowledge. Knowledge of the materials and methods used in facility and grounds maintenance and custodial operations, including specialized cleaning agents and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public. Ability to work a varying schedule of hours, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to operate City vehicles, power tools and equipment including a radio. Ability to learn the maintenance operation, policies and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Associate's degree supplemented by five (5) years related experience performing similar duties in facility or park maintenance; or any acceptable related combination of training and experience.  One year related coursework or experience in park management.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  •  Valid Florida Driver's License required
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  •  Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certification required within three (3) months of hire.
  • OSHA (10-hour Construction) Certification required within three (3) months of hire.
          All required certifications and licenses must be maintained after appointment.

    On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand at counter for long periods of time.  Frequently required to walk, see, hear and talk with the public and read presented documents.  On occasion required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, taste, or smell; Intermittently twist and reach; lift or carry weight regularly of 10 pounds and on occasion weight of up to 40 pounds. Specific vision required includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information:
  • There is a one-year probationary period.
  • It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
