Description
Nature of Work
Under direction of the Wastewater Manager, perform routine tasks necessary to ensure proper operation and mechanical integrity of Recirculating Sand Filter wastewater treatment systems, septic tank effluent pump systems and effluent disposal drip irrigation fields. Inspect installation of new "STEP" tanks.
Specific Duties (Operation)
• Inspect sand filter surface for vegetation and apply herbicide as needed.
• Inspect and clean, as needed, Bio-filters in recirculation tanks
• Remove, clean, and re-install Arkal micron filter disc
• Inspect and clean ultraviolet disinfection units
• Observe and record in log, effluent flow meter totalizer reading
• Check Programmable Logic Controller panel and observe operation status and cycling of pumps
• Manually operate pumps to test operation of hydrotech distributing valves
• Collect effluent sample and observe clarity
• Inspect sand filter perimeter fencing and gates for integrity
• Other duties as assigned
Specific Duties (Maintenance)
• Repair / replace defective pumps, float switches, hydro-tech valve disc, ultraviolet unit bulbs and ballast
• Make repairs to drip field solenoid valves, ball valves, drip lines, valve boxes, hydrotech valves and Inspect drip field perimeter fence and presence of Regulatory Agency required identification signs
• Inspect installation and operation of new septic tank effluent pump systems ("STEP")
• Respond promptly to service calls and repair "STEP" system pump, floats, valves, piping and controls as required
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma
• Valid TN driver's license and safe driving record
• General knowledge of Rutherford County road / highway system
• Experience working with PVC pipe, pump systems and light electrical
• Residency requirement of 25 miles or less from the central office in Murfreesboro, TN
Ability Requirements
• Work in potentially hazardous environments
• Respond to call-outs / emergencies on a 24 - hour basis
• Ability to carry various objects up to 60 lbs.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills
• State of TN Grade 1 Collection System Certification
• State of TN Grade II Biological/Natural Wastewater Certification
