The Recovery Nurse monitors vital signs, administers medications, including intravenous medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with surgeons and anesthesiologists. Provides professional nursing care to assigned post-operative patients. Being a Recovery Nurse observes patients' progress, records observations in patient medical records, and updates attending physicians directly when necessary. Provides support to patients waking up from anesthesia, including bandage maintenance, pain management, nausea treatment, and ensuring patients receive adequate rest, fluids and nutrients. In addition, Recovery Nurse teaches patients how to clean bandages, take medication, and follow post-surgical care instructions. Requires graduation from an approved nursing program. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a state license to practice. Recovery Nurse's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.
