A Vascular Physician Assistant is a healthcare professional who works under the supervision of a vascular surgeon to provide comprehensive care to patients with vascular conditions. They are responsible for conducting patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, performing procedures such as wound care and suture removal, and providing patient education and counseling. Vascular Physician Assistants also assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative care, and may also participate in research and quality improvement initiatives related to vascular health. They must have a strong understanding of vascular anatomy and physiology, as well as excellent communication and critical thinking skills to effectively manage the complex needs of vascular patients.
Surgeon - Vascular specializes in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of patients with diseases of the blood vessels outside the heart and brain. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Being a Surgeon - Vascular identifies need for tests or follow-up visits. Reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Additionally, Surgeon - Vascular may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Records and maintains test data and prepares preliminary interpretations of test results. Being a Vascular Sonographer may perform therapeutic procedures such as pseudoaneurysm compression. Requires an associate degree in medical sonography or equivalent. Additionally, Vascular Sonographer may require the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential.
