Located in southwest Lake County, Illinois, Ela Township began on November 6, 1849, and is named after an early settler, George Ela. Isaac Fox donated one acre of land to the Township, which is now Ela Park and the former site of the Ela Town Hall and the township offices. Today the old Ela Town Hall serves as the site of the Ela Historical Society on the first floor with a community meeting room on the second floor. The Ela Township offices have been located at 1155 E. Route 22 in Lake Zurich since 2010. Ela Township serves more than 40,000 residents and covers 36 square miles. Within its borders are all or part of the villages of Barrington, Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, North Barrington and portions of unincorporated Palatine and Mundelein.
