Haleakala Ranch, founded in 1888, currently comprises over 30,000 acres of land on the dramatic slopes of Haleakala. For over 100 years and five generations, the families who founded and worked the ranch - clearing thousands of acres of lantana, kalakala and pamakanis, digging and erecting fence posts, laying and mending water lines and raising, breeding and driving cattle - are the same families that are stewards of the Ranch today. These five generations of tough ranchers have defined a unique Paniolo lifestyle that encompasses mountain forests and fences with grazing cattle and horses, historic country towns, rodeos, polo and cattle drives that are the fabric of Upcountry Maui and Haleakala Ranch. The Ranch is an active cattle operation with over 4000 head. It contains unique areas of pristine native forests, gentle rolling verdant pastures, arid kiawe brush lands and remote watersheds stretching from an elevation of 8000 feet to the Pacific Ocean. The ranching activities, natural environment, lifestyle and history are resources to be utilized for economic diversification. As a part of this diversification, the Ranch has created a master plan for eco-tourism. This plan identifies alternative forms of economically viable land use that are environmentally sustainable, will not deplete the Ranch's resources, are supportive of the local community and will provide on-going returns to the Ranch's employees and shareholders. Our vision is to maintain and preserve for future generations the vast beauty and rich ranching traditions held by this corporation for over 100 years. It is our goal to accomplish these while returning value to our shareholders. We have the following operations on our lands: Cattle ranching with a herd of approximately 4000 Land leases including farming, ranching, seed corn, protea, poinsettias, lavender, composting, fresh produce, telecommunications, construction, and government agencies and contractors. Recreational leases including: horseback riding, and zipline .
