What You'll Do English teachers at Avenues help students become skilled, passionate, and joyful readers and writers. Students will read from diverse literature. They will write frequently for different purposes and will continue to develop their vocabulary, speaking, listening, writing and viewing skills. In grades 6-8, we employ a range of instructional modes. To support students, teachers design mini-lessons to teach targeted, dynamic literacy strategies, and hold reading and writing conferences with individual students. Teachers use discussions to foster skills of listening, accountable talk, and collaboration.
