On February 18, 1983, the National Racquetball Association of the Deaf, (NRAD) was founded. Jim Fleming, Peter Pedula, Steve Horwich, Jim Jones, Charles Martin, Jeff Dichter and a few others had a meeting to make plans for the very first National Tournament of the Deaf on April 27-29, 1984. The West Suburban Association of the Deaf In Palatine, Illinois hosted the First Annual National Racquetball Tournament of the Deaf.
