In 2002, New Mexico Water Service Company (New Mexico Water) was formed with the acquisition of the Rio Grande Utility Corporation by California Water Service Group, which added 2,265 water and 1,600 wastewater customers. The 2004 acquisition of National Utility Company added another 1,600 customers to the New Mexico subsidiary. Since then, New Mexico Water has made two other acquisitions: Cypress Gardens Water Users and Independent Utility Company. New Mexico Water is headquartered in Rio Communities, New Mexico, south of Albuquerque, and has an additional Customer Center in Elephant Butte. New Mexico Water Service is a wholly owned subsidiary of California Water Service Group, which also includes California Water Service Company, Washington Water Service Company, Hawaii Water Service Company, and CWS Utility Services.
