What does an Course Strategy Associate do at companies like 2U, Inc.?

What We’re Looking For:

Course Strategy Associates support the Course Strategy team in providing learning design recommendations to our university partners as they seek to bring their courses and curricula to life online. Associates may independently produce basic learning design recommendations for individual courses, leveraging existing best practices and team resources, or partner with a more senior member of the team to provide support on a complex project. They conduct research on courses, programs, disciplines, and pedagogical practices to inform our work as a team, and provide administrative support to keep team materials, resources, and knowledge repositories accurate and up-to-date. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented problem-solvers who anticipate questions and proactively seek out the answers.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  1. Learning Design Work : Course Strategy Associates spend the bulk of their time supporting learning design work with our university partner faculty. This can include independently developing course design recommendations for specific courses, or preparing and finalizing course strategy deliverables for other members of the team. Associates may also be required to attend partner meetings to provide logistical support, as needed. 
  2. Internal Projects and Team Administration : Course Strategy Associates work on internal process improvement projects that could include data analysis, research on learning and design topics, coursework analysis, or updating team materials and resources.  
  3. Personal Administration, Professional Development, and Team Responsibilities : Course Strategy Associates spend some part of most days on general administrative tasks such as email and personal organization, professional development including meeting with their manager and building knowledge and skills, and team responsibilities such as weekly meetings and workshares.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 1+ years of directly relevant or transferable professional experience
  • A background in education or instructional design is an asset, but not required; however, a real interest in designing learning experiences, working with faculty, serving students, and impacting education is essential
  • Proven ability to anticipate needs, thinking analytically and critically to complete tasks
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to solve complex problems within rigid limitations
  • Strong written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity in professional or personal pursuits, and an aptitude for learning (potentially complex) new things quickly
  • Eagerness to learn, with a habit of continual improvement
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organization, while keeping an eye on the big picture
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change
