2U, Inc. Course Strategy Manager Salary in the United States

What We’re Looking For:

Course Strategy Managers oversee a team of Course Strategists and Course Strategy Associates who work with university partner faculty to design delivery strategies for their online courses. They are experts in learning science and instructional design and adept at people management and mentorship. The Course Strategy Manager is responsible for the operational oversight of their team, including work assignment and review, and works closely with Lead Strategists to understand and implement partner needs. They communicate and collaborate with managers across Curriculum & Learning to resolve issues and ensure an effective and efficient course design and development process for our partner faculty.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

1. Operational Team Management : The Course Strategy Manager’s primary responsibility is providing operational oversight for their team of strategists. This includes assigning and monitoring workload, reviewing course strategy work and deliverables, tracking team metrics, communicating with managers cross-functionally, and synthesizing and reporting out to stakeholders on learning design progress and findings. 
2. Curriculum Strategy Projects : Course Strategy Managers collaborate with Lead Strategists on partner-facing special projects like workshop development and curriculum mapping and analysis.
3. Internal Projects and Initiatives : Course Strategy Managers identify and oversee internal process improvement projects related to the team’s strategic priorities, such as the development of training materials, data analysis, and streamlining workflows. They are entrusted to represent the team in cross-functional task forces and initiatives.
4. People Management : Course Strategy Managers manage and mentor Course Strategists and Course Strategy Associates. They meet with reports regularly and provide feedback on progress toward professional development objectives.
5. Administration, Professional Development, and Team Responsibilities : Course Strategy Mangers spend some part of most days on general administrative tasks such as email and personal organization, professional development including meeting with their manager and building knowledge and skills, and team responsibilities such as weekly meetings and workshares.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• 5+ years of directly relevant or transferable professional experience
• Experience with instructional design, and an advanced knowledge of principles of learning science and best practices in online education
• Experience managing and mentoring individual contributors
• Experience providing feedback on instructional design work
• Experience providing operational oversight and managing a team’s work
• Experience planning and leading effective meetings 
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, anticipate needs, foresee potential implications, and take proactive measures to address challenges and opportunities
• Exemplary, persuasive verbal and written communication skills, and care for the quality of written deliverables
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity in professional or personal pursuits, and an aptitude for learning (potentially complex) new things quickly
• Expert relationship management skills and the ability to be empathetic, diplomatic, and responsive with a range of personalities 
• Resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to solve unique and exceptionally complex problems within rigid limitations
• A habit of continual improvement and a love of efficiency
• Exceptionally organized and detailed, with an eye for the big picture
• Comfort with ambiguity and change
