What does an Social Media Strategist do at companies like 2U, Inc.?

What We’re Looking For:

The Social Media Strategist leads organic social media strategy on behalf of a portfolio of 2U-supported university partner programs and is responsible for independently developing, executing and measuring a comprehensive social plan for each program in his/her portfolio in order to support organic marketing value. Experienced in social media best practices on platforms including, but not limited to, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, the Social Media Strategist reports to the Senior Social Media Manager, collaborates with all members of the social media team, and works cross-functionally with paid social media strategists, brand leads, content marketers, and other marketing stakeholders to leverage organic social media to support business and partnership goals.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Manage the long-term strategy as well as the daily planning and execution of social media plans across channels, including writing/creating original, compelling content that is aligned with partner brand values, and monitoring, managing and taking actions on risks and opportunities.
  • Manage process and quality of all content for publication produced in-house by Junior strategists or out-of-house by freelanced talent.
  • Craft campaigns to maximize reach and engagement for inbound marketing content.
  • Track, analyze and report insights, including content recommendations based on social insights related to content performance.
  • Serve as organic social media point of contact for 2U marketing stakeholders and 2U school partners for assigned portfolio.
  • Consume media constantly to identify and understand trends in both social media and relevant program industries in order to shape social media content that drives engagement and to provide organic social media counsel to internal teams as well as university partners.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, PR required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and/or create compelling social media content
  • Experience using a content manager (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social) to manage multiple brands
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership in client facing communication, strategy, and project management
  • Ability to work on deadline
