Position Summary:

This position's objective is to give the supervisor trainee the skills and knowledge necessary to supervise a Plant Manufacturing or Material Control crew. The Trainee will learn the Abbott policies relating to personnel, company goals, practices and proper procedures to achieve the operations objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

• Observe and learn how the various Plant operating areas interact and impact upon each other during the daily operations
• Obtain actual experience in the areas of leading a team, achievement of operational, quality, safety and financial goals
• Meet production requirements
• Operate the production crew to be within budget from an overtime, material usage, expense and quality basis
• Learn the proper employee relations techniques and requirements
• Counseling skills
• Open door policy
• Safety training
• Employee evaluations and reviews
• This position is designed to develop supervisory skills needed to run a production crew of 10 - 20 employees.  Trainee must deal directly with hourly production employees and learn to motivate, direct, as well as deal with employee relations situations.  In addition, skills are needed in dealing with peers in other departments to achieve the goals of the department and plant.

Accountability/Scope/Budget:

The supervisor trainee could directly effect the quality and use of product being produced on any given shift, as the supervisor trainee will make decisions regarding personnel, production and quality as it relates to the operation.  The incumbent will receive guidance from the departmental manager of the area being worked in.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree preferably in food science, business, industrial engineering desired or equivalent experience
• Relevant business experience, utility operator and crewleader roles minimun 3 years or work experience combined with education
• Trainee needs to be able to translate the stated deparment's goals into action through proper guidance and motivation of his/her employees
• Decisions as to quality, personnel and production performance can be made within plant guidelines
