Primary Job Function:

This position will play a role in executing procurement activities within Global Procurement’s U.S. Procurement Operations team.Procurement Operations is a team of procurement professionals focused on effectively and efficiently meeting the sourcing needs of the business, primarily through supplier selection, negotiation and contracting with suppliers in compliance with global or regional spend-category strategies; or in compliance with ad hoc supplier and tail spend management strategies.The Procurement Operations team is a critical component of Abbott’s Global Procurement model, wherein the business is guided to preferred strategic suppliers and/or established buying channels to drive compliance to procurement and business strategy.

This role will be responsible for Procurement Operations activities, including execution of contracts and statements of work, supporting the Logistics category within U.S. Procurement Operations.  Working with customers, internal and external, and the Divisions to solve issues and drive high levels of customer service.  The Procurement Specialist has delegated authority to commit company funds while contributing cost savings and partnerships with suppliers and internal customers.

  • Works within defined processes and procedures, while proactively seeking innovative ways to improve the procurement processes, cycle times, and customer service levels
  • Understanding of the "One Procurement" strategies.  Strong knowledge across the category that impacts the team positively.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • First line responder for procurement requests; pivots between operations and strategy sourcing
  • Execute contracts/Statements of Work/RFx's/ordering documents
  • Assist with supplier selection
  • Manage day to day supply issues
  • Analyze possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Communicates pertinent information to both internal customers and suppliers to keep apprised and to prevent delays/issues
  • Manage PO approvals - up to $199,999
  • Educate on existing solutions and enable performance and tech tools development
  • Lead resolution on issues and invoice errors
  • Scope change management and communicate trends of changes
  • Drive savings outcomes
  • Collaboration with various functional business areas

Use of metrics, participation in daily huddle meetings, and collaboration with Regional and Global procurement colleagues are critical in this role.

Drive compliance to procurement strategy by building knowledge of existing category strategies and procurement processes in order to effectively guide business stakeholders to selected suppliers and appropriate purchasing method.Act as key communication point for business stakeholder in the guidance process.

Develop, manage relationships with and balance priorities of key Abbott stakeholder groups including:Global Procurement Strategic Category Leads, Shared Service Operations, Legal, IT Vendor Risk Management team, Finance and internal Business stakeholders/customers.

Continuously optimize Procurement Operations process and tools via known improvement methodologies through use of technology, templates and information repositories.

Drive and promote the Global Procurement vision and Procurement Operations mission across the stakeholder community to promote adoption the vision, drive compliance to strategy, create a seamless procurement experience for business partners, and reduce tactical work for the organization.

  • Performs routine professional-based activities and contribute to and manage some projects.
  • Communicate with appropriate departments to clarify request and obtain appropriate supporting documentation for the purchase

Relationship Management:

  • Implement agreed purchasing strategies
  • Seek and support business relationships with diverse suppliers
  • Work regularly with divisional customers and support functions to ensure good customer satisfaction and continuous improvement

Leading People:

  • Seek, develop, and maintain business relationships with suppliers, clients and customers

Compliance:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures

Accountability:

  • Executes against the goals set by the Procurement Operation Leads/Managers.
  • Seek innovative ways to maintain and improve procurement processes, cycle times, total acquisition costs, and customer service levels.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Engineering, Science, Business, or Financial Degrees
  • CPM certification desired

Minimum Experience/Training Required:

  • 0-2 years of or Procurement experience
  • Marketing background experience desirable
  • Strong customer service skills                            
  • Strong problem-solving skills          
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good time management/prioritization skills
  • Good interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills
  • Experience with various Procurement tools (e.g. SAP, Ariba, Coupa, contract lifecycle management tools, RFx tools) desirable
