The Opportunity

Our Core Diagnostics at Abbott Park, IL has an opening for the role of Associate Scientist R&D

Participates in research, development, or scientific/ technical activities. Executes scientific research or development in collaboration with others.

What you'll work on:

  • With direction, assists in the execution of pre-defined/ standard experiments and technical research. Demonstrates ability to explain/differentiate their research and experiments.

  • Reviews experiment protocols and exercises technical discretion in the interpretation of protocols; obtains feedback and guidance on a clear direction for execution.

  • Summarizes data within the testing protocol. Performs scientific work and a variety of laboratory procedures requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, methods, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related scientific tasks.

  • Familiar with investigation operating procedure(s) and instrument manual troubleshooting guide if applicable.

  • Able to identify out-of-specification events and detect/highlight problems.

  • Troubleshoots instrumentation or experiments; recognizes and assists with the resolution of basic technical problems.

  • Extended team member providing background knowledge if applicable. Under supervision, assists with project planning.

  • Implements plans and evaluates data with oversight.

  • Participates in routine maintenance and lab safety.

  • With guidance, can write verification and validation protocols and reports and order materials needed to complete procedures; Documents development work and may assist in writing technical reports.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

  • No supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree (± 16 years) in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics

Preferred 

  • 0-2 yrs. experience 
  • Awareness of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Basic Computer Skills
