Primary Job Function:
Provides a variety of technical services to support customs and trade compliance at the site/division level, ensuring compliance with all relevant customs regulations and trade laws and regulations, including 19CFR, 15CFR, FDA, USDA, and other US regulatory agency requirements. Supports department by applying basic understanding of regulations to address a variety of import/export compliance issues, including tariff classification, Customs valuation, FDA inquiries, and other regulatory requirements.
DEPENDING ON THE SITE/DIVISION, INCUMBENTS IN THIS POSITION MAY SPECIALIZE SOLELY IN IMPORT- OR EXPORT-RELATED ACTIVITIES, OR MAY HAVE INVOLVEMENT IN BOTH.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
· Applies basic understanding of import/export regulations and requirements to support business needs.
· Assist site/division C&TC personnel in completing HTSUS and/or ECCN classifications and addressing import and export compliance issues related to 19 CFR and 15 CFR.
· Prepare import/export related documentation, which may include commercial invoices, export declarations, bills of lading, etc.
· Ensure timely and accurate response to Broker Requests for Information and follow up to ensure resolution.
· Communicate with freight forwarders to arrange and facilitate shipments, including booking, configuration, tracking/tracing, etc.
· Maintain and update site Item Master Log; work with site/division regulatory to ensure accuracy and completeness of FDA product codes and affirmation of compliance codes.
· Conduct effective and timely transactional review/audit of all import/export records. Elevate issues requiring correction or further review to supervisor/manager.
· Compile quarterly import/export log and provide to Corporate C&TC.
· Work with brokers to resolve broker/freight invoice issues/discrepancies.
· Provide timely customer service to all incoming critical phone calls, miscellaneous phone calls, and emails.
· Provide technical support for general import/export-related projects, as needed.
· Personally educate self on latest Customs, FDA, and other government agency import regulations.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree: Preferred. Business, logistics/transportation, or other related field.
High school diploma/GED: Required. Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist preferred
Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years experience in import/export operations, international business, or other related field.
Sound problem solving abilities and close attention to detail required. Effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills are absolutely critical for this position.
Proficiency in database, Excel, and other software programs.
