Job Description Summary
The primary responsibility of the Business Manager, Third Party Manufacturing (TPM), is to grow the business by launching new products or transferring existing products to new external manufacturers globally. This position will be responsible to search, assess, negotiate and contract with TPMs. Evaluation and identification of technical manufacturing capabilities and execution of product launches will be part of the role. As products are approaching launch, this position is responsible for the successful resolution of all business and supply chain issues with Third Party Manufacturers that affect product quality or availability. This role evaluates cost / benefit of various financial scenarios and makes recommendations to senior management, and coordinates internal and external resources to address issues and secure the supply chain. This position will be responsible for learning the business, systems, and processes by coordinating the activities and work closely with Marketing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, R&D, Purchasing, Regulatory, Legal, Production Planning, and Logistics to launch products successfully. The role will be 100% accountable to deliver top line growth through portfolio expansion in the US/Canada businesses (Infant, Pediatric, and Adult products) and International businesses (Infant, Pediatric, and Adult products). The TPM Manager will engage with external manufacturers, visit and evaluate their sites, negotiate contracts, and execute or facilitate the project activities (plant trials, audits, product development, timeline development) with the TPM up to the first Commercial production. Projects may include the launch of new product innovations and/or transfers of existing products to external manufacturing sites.
Justification
Based on increasing use of Third-Party Manufacturers (TPMs) both for innovations and capacity expansion, there is a need to hire additional resources to support the startup of new TPMs to support Abbott Nutrition. Additionally, the departure of one team member has left an open role that needs to be back-filled.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Third-Party Manufacturing Business Manager is to identify and set-up new TPMs to meet business needs.
Proven history of delivering results and very strong work ethic are key success factors and expectations for this position. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with ownership and accountability for the entire supply chain. Must have experience in working with multiple functional areas and possess an understanding of the various operational disciplines (Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Production Planning). Experience with manufacturing, in particular nutritional product manufacturing, is preferred. Contract negotiation experience is also highly beneficial. Strong oral and written presentation skills are required, along with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Must possess excellent problem-solving and logical thinking skills. This position will frequently interact with the principle business owner or senior management staff at the Third-Party Manufacturer to discuss projects and negotiate issues and resolve problems. This position requires frequent travel to Third Party Manufacturers, sometimes on short notice, as business conditions demand.
