Primary Job Function:

Abbott North America Shared Services is seeking an Accounts Payable Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of payables processing and helpdesk inquiry for Abbott US, Puerto Rico and Canada. This is a key management role within Shared Services, leading both local and virtual teams in the timely and accurate processing of over 700M vendor invoices.  The right candidate must be passionate about developing high performing, customer-centric teams and working with stakeholders and internal customers to quickly resolve issues.  The A/P Manager also leads several projects to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Procure-to-Pay process and extend the Shared Services operating model.

The position is based in Lake Bluff, IL.  The ideal candidate will have at least 8+ years of progressive experience leading teams in a complex, global company.

Major Responsibilities:

• Maintain a cohesive, customer-centric team in partnership with Abbott’s BPO to process, approve and pay vendor invoices timely and accurately
• Strengthen internal customer relationships by consistently achieving quality and cycle-time service levels for A/P processing and helpdesk functions
• Manage the accounts payable monthly close process (calendar, reconciliations, analysis, reporting)
• Enhance and maintain financial controls for Accounts Payable in compliance with Abbott’s Corporate, Division and SOX requirements
• Use Lean/Six Sigma skills and tools to identify opportunities for improvement and implement per plan
• Work closely with stakeholders, corporate functions and vendors to continuously improve Procure-to-Pay processing (end-to-end)
• Support strategic initiatives to meet Enterprise, Shared Service and Procure to Pay process objectives
• Develop accounts payable talent within the finance organization; connect individual goals to business objectives and help team members excel in their role

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other business-related field
• 8+ years progressive business experience, preferably in health care and/or medical technology industries
• Progressive leadership experience in operations, including extensive exposure to accounts payable in a complex, global company

• Experience working with Business Process Outsourcer
• Strong analytical skills and proactive approach to problem solving; ideally experienced in Lean/Six Sigma
• Track record of leading productivity and quality initiatives and driving change throughout organizations
• Ability to balance between the strategic “big picture” perspective and proper attention to detail with a “hands on” approach
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer-centricity
• Ability to recruit and develop team members
