Job Description

The Database Lead will lead the design, implementation, migration and maintenance of in-house database systems, and work closely with scientists and Data Science group members to track data in plasmid design, high-throughput screening, fermentation, protein purification and analytical development groups. The Database Lead will mentor junior full-stack and front-end web developers, and is responsible for development of web interfaces and utility tools to support individual groups, internal research and external collaboration. The Database Lead will support and work closely with others on machine learning efforts which aim to transform data into proprietary knowledge in order to improve AbSci’s protein expression platform. You will also assist in the evaluation and possible integration of third-party software tools to support these company efforts.

Qualifications

• M.S. or higher in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Life Science with practical database work experience in life science companies
• 10+ years of software development and database design
• Deep knowledge of databases and experience architecting a database, preferably in the life sciences domain
• Excellent knowledge of performing analysis, design, development, troubleshooting and debugging in databases
• Familiar with open-source database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and NoSQL databases, and experience of database migration projects
• Familiar with front-end web development technology and framework such as Angular, React, Django and Django Rest API. 
• Deep knowledge in GitHub, Docker, DevOps to provide continuous integration and delivery with high software quality
• Knowledge and management experience in the AWS cloud platform and its services
• Proven track record of successful software releases including validation, user training, post-release issue definition and resolution
• Strong communication and documentation skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and operates with a sense of urgency and strong follow-up skills
• Degree in Biology/Genetics is a plus though not required
