 AbSci is a growth stage synthetic biology company located in a new, state-of-the art laboratory in downtown Vancouver, WA, just across the river from Portland, OR.  AbSci is a global leader and innovator of revolutionary biomanufacturing technologies, designing and programming cells for next-generation biopharmaceuticals. Our Protein Printing™ technology results in dramatic reductions in the cost of producing biologics, acceleration of drug discovery timelines, and enables the production of previously difficult or impossible-to-produce molecules.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Research Associate will join the Molecular Sciences team and will support innovative experimental research that advances AbSci’s proprietary E. coli SoluPro® expression platform.  Primary responsibilities include providing core support to NGS sequencing and analysis activities. Specifically, you will be involved in the day-to-day NGS library preparation, running and maintaining of the sequencing instrument, and data review and analysis. 

You will demonstrate rapid mastery of assigned tasks and the capacity to take on additional technical responsibilities within an expanding team. You consistently demonstrate initiative and follow-through in projects and tasks and you are passionate about scientific advancement with strong commitment to excellence.  Because this role supports the science happening at AbSci, you have a strong orientation towards making an impact and servicing our internal customers.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of research experience in a relevant laboratory setting 
  • Experience with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex laboratory instrumentation, particularly Illumina NGS technology or similar DNA sequencing platforms
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Huge plus (but not required):

  • Experience with PacBio technology
  • 2 years experience in an industry laboratory setting
