We are seeking an experienced attorney to join Acceleron’s legal department. The primary focus of the position will be to provide commercial legal counsel relating to a broad range of activities at Acceleron. Specifically, the successful candidate will need to be open to taking on promotional and other materials review, partnering with the business on commercial initiatives, and taking on other general legal activities of the Company. The ideal candidate will have prior experience counseling prescription drug companies on legal issues relating to advertising and promotion, scientific exchange, patient support programs, and interactions with health care professionals, including regarding the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; FDA regulations and guidance; federal and state anti-kickback statutes; OIG guidance documents and advisory opinions; the False Claims Act; the Sunshine Act; and the PhRMA Code. This position will report to the Director, Compliance and Commercial Counsel.

What will you do?

• Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the commercial, medical affairs, patient advocacy, market access, and market development teams based on applicable laws, regulations, and Acceleron policies and guidelines
• Analyze advertising and promotional materials, non-promotional disease state and medical materials, and advisory board materials
• Serve as a member of various cross-functional teams, including Acceleron’s promotional review committee
• Serve as a subject matter expert on healthcare law and related business operations, staying informed of evolving healthcare legislation and regulations and the enforcement landscape
• Collaborate with colleagues across the Legal Department and other business groups to ensure comprehensive and integrated client counseling
• Provide other general legal support of company activities

What are we looking for?

• JD from an accredited law school in the U.S.
• 4-7+ years of legal experience, with experience in a branded pharmaceutical/ biotechnology company or law firm experience working on such matters strongly preferred
• Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Massachusetts, or ability to register as in-house counsel in Massachusetts
• Strong knowledge of healthcare and FDA laws and regulations, including those related to FDA promotion and OIG guidance
• Outstanding interpersonal skills to effectively establish and maintain business relationships at all levels of the company
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple small to large projects in a cross-functional environment
