In hematology, the Company and its global collaboration partner, Bristol-Myers Squibb, are co-promoting newly approved REBLOZYL® (luspatercept-aamt) in North America for the treatment of anemia in adult patients with beta thalassemia who require regular red blood cell transfusions and developing luspatercept for the treatment of chronic anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes and myelofibrosis. Acceleron is also advancing its neuromuscular program with ACE-083, a locally-acting Myostatin+ agent in Phase 2 development in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and is conducting a Phase 2 pulmonary program with sotatercept in pulmonary arterial hypertension.

We are seeking an experienced attorney to join Acceleron’s legal and compliance department. The primary focus of the position will be to provide commercial legal counsel and assist in the development and implementation of the compliance program at Acceleron. Specifically, the successful candidate will need to be open to taking on fraud and abuse compliance counseling, promotional review, auditing and monitoring responsibilities, assisting with the implementation of compliance and tracking systems, developing policies and trainings, and taking on other general legal and compliance activities of the Company. This position will report to the Compliance Officer.

What will you do?

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the commercial, medical affairs, patient advocacy, market access, and market development teams based on applicable laws, regulations (including fraud and abuse laws, such as the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute), and Acceleron policies and guidelines
  • Analyze advertising and promotional materials, non-promotional disease state and medical materials, and advisory board materials
  • Draft and negotiate contracts including grant, sponsorship, donation, consulting, vendor, and advisory board agreements
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Acceleron’s compliance program, including, but not limited to, the company’s commercial compliance policies and procedures
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the compliance program while balancing the company’s overall strategic commercial and medical objectives
  • Perform in-person monitoring at key company activities, such as advisory boards and sales representative calls to physicians
  • Assist in the preparation of compliance training for company employees
  • Provide other general legal and compliance support of company activities

 

What are we looking for?

  • JD from an accredited law school in the U.S.
  • 4-7+ years of legal experience, with experience in a branded pharmaceutical/ biotechnology company or law firm experience working on such matters strongly preferred
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Massachusetts, or ability to register as in-house counsel in Massachusetts
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare and FDA compliance laws and regulations, including those related to FDA promotion, OIG guidance, Physician Payments Sunshine Act, HIPAA, and State reporting laws
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to effectively establish and maintain business relationships at all levels of the company
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple small to large projects in a cross-functional environment
  • Ability to travel approximately 10-15% of the time
