MOTT HAVEN ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL Academic Coach - Alumni Program Salary in the United States

The Mott Haven Academy Charter School (Haven Academy) seeks committed, engaging, dynamic educators to join its new Haven Alumni Program as full-time academic coaches.

Haven Academy is a K-8 charter school in the South Bronx that empowers children in an educational environment which addresses and reduces the barriers to academic success through the integration of family support services with a rigorous, college-preparatory academic program.

Starting in 8th grade, the Haven Alumni Program supports scholars with the transition to their new high schools, partnering with each scholar and their family to ensure that they successfully graduate high school and realize their postsecondary goals. Academic coaches will report to the Program Supervisor and work collaboratively with other Haven staff members to ensure student success.

Academic coaches in the Haven Alumni Program will have the following responsibilities:

• Meeting with students 1x/week on average to work with them across any subject where they need support.
• Helping students to develop effective study habits and organizational skills.
• Engaging students during tutoring sessions and making outreach to students and families to support regular tutoring attendance.
• Reporting feedback on tutoring sessions.
• Advising and coaching students on educational challenges that arise inside and outside the classroom.
• Supporting students as needed with transfer high school applications and, as students approach their junior and senior years, with college applications.
• Connecting students and families to appropriate resources when they face challenges that go beyond the scope of the coach’s role.
• Studying high school level content and participating in ongoing mock tutoring and peer support to sharpen coaching and tutoring skills.
• Working collaboratively with Haven Academy Middle School staff to ensure coaches are building positive relationships with current 8th grade students

Academic coaches will primarily be working remotely with students and will transition to meeting with students in person once it is safe to do so. Depending on students’ needs and coaches’ preferences, coaches may also have the option of meeting with students in person at Haven Academy.

Academic coaches must have the following qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree
• Prior experience teaching or tutoring
• Prior experience working with adolescents preferred
• Ability to deliver high-quality tutoring across a range of subjects, including English and Math, at the high school level
• Bilingual (Spanish speaking) a plus
