The Director of Project Management Office provides leadership, oversight, accountability, planning, approval and implementation for enterprise-wide project management and execution of corporate initiatives.  Develops and establishes best practices and standards, implements technology, evaluates risks, and manages resource allocation to facilitate the work of the Project Management Office (PMO) and ensure the successful and timely delivery of projects. Includes the oversight and development of PMO staff as well as the education and mentoring of business unit staff involved with project management. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive best practices and standards for project management based on Project Management Institute (PMI) guidelines and corporate requirements. Ensures adherence to PMO’s project methodology and guidelines across Enterprise initiatives. 
  • Develop and facilitate positive relationships with key stakeholders to include Information Services, project managers, project sponsors, and business leadership.  Fosters a PMO culture and mindset to improve the probability of successful project delivery and strategic alignment.
  • Mentor, coach, motivate, and coordinate training for project team members and project managers.  Facilitate an environment of collaboration.  Guide project managers in learning and applying decision making approaches.
  • Assign PMO staff resources and provides oversight on projects to ensure delivery of projects on time, within budget and to specification. Collaborate with stakeholders and resolve issues related to project priorities, resource allocation and workflow processes.
  • Negotiate with and manage external resources related to RFPs, proposals, contracts, relationships, and deliverables.  Ensure service expectations are developed and met by vendors. Establish and manage project budgets and overall budgets and financial accountability for the PMO.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate risks; develop contingency plans.  Identify, quantify, and track realization of expected benefits defined in business cases.  Identify, develop, and monitor project and portfolio KPIs, metrics, leading indicators, and trends.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage enterprise-wide PM related systems and project tracking / reporting / dashboards to ensure that executives and other stakeholders are up to date on all projects. Prepare and deliver presentations to leadership regarding project status and deliverables.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and five to seven years related project management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. PMP certification required.  Experience managing technical projects required.  Strong financial knowledge required.
