Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska (Mid) has operated the Weatherization Assistance Program serving 27 counties in south central Nebraska since 1979. The mission of Weatherization Assistance Programis to reduce energy costs for low-income families, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, while safeguarding their health and safety. The Weatherization Assistance Program works to help make homes safer and more energy efficient. Mid has weatherized over 11,000 homes and nationwide over 6.7 million households have been weatherized. For every $1 invested in the program, Weatherization returns $2.1 to the household and society. Energy savings resulting from the energy efficiency improvements made typically last 20 years or longer. Conservatively, estimated savings from 1979 - 2012 years total $101.2 million. About $4.4 million in new savings accrue annually. This program is making an essential difference for families and seniors in need. Weatherization Measures include: furnace & water heater inspection (if found unsafe can be repaired or replaced) adding insulation in attics, sidewalls, and crawl spaces attic ventilation insulating water heaters & water pipes weather-stripping & caulking around doors, windows, and general heat waste areas repairing broken windows and doors (possibly replacing doors & windows, if determined cost effective by the National Energy Audit) Qualifying for the Weatherization Program is based on gross income.
