The Islip Fire Department maintains a close relationship with Post 411 and the two organizations share a significant history. The America Legion post is named for two members of the Islip Fire Department who died protecting our country during the First World War. Joseph Rusy was inducted into the Army in April, 1917, and was killed in action participating in a raiding party near Thaicourt, France on September 22, 1918. Emil J. Bohm was inducted into the Army in December 1917, and was killed in action in the Argonne Forest, France on September 27, 1918.
