KEY Project's Ho`ohuli Program has its roots in an identified community need: opportunities and tools to help adults turn a corner and achieve economic and educational success. In ancient times as now the term huli referred to "change", "turnover" or, in connection with growing taro, the cutting to plant that included the ha (stem) and a portion of the corm (see drawing). This cutting would then become the makua (parent) to a next generation `ohana or family of plants, ready to sustain family and village alike. Our Ho`ohuli staff works with clients to assess their needs and interests, then beyond to assist with finding appropriate training or education resources needed to help frame or reframe educational and employment directions. Our program is for adults of all ages - those wanting to make productive, positive changes in their lives. KEY's Waihe`e Road location, the site of our multi-purpose community center, is strategically located for the northern Ko`olaupoko and Ko`olauloa coastline with ADA-accessible classrooms and meeting spaces, excellent computer and audio-visual capacity along with IT support. By partnering with others in the educational and vocational fields we are able to bring much needed services to our community.
