The Achievable Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1996, exists to bridge the financial gap created by the cost of services for the developmentally disabled community and the financial challenges of the families who need them. The mission of the Achievable Foundation is to significantly improve the quality of life of persons with developmental disabilities. Where possible, Achievable seeks innovative, long-term and cost-effective solutions to problems, with particular focus on needs that are urgent. Developmental disabilities include mental retardation, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, autism, and disabling conditions closely related to mental retardation. It is a condition that originates before an individual reaches age 18; continues, or can be expected to continue indefinitely; and constitutes a substantial impairment. Approximately 17 percent of U.S. children under the age of 18 have a developmental disability.
