In 1994, a group of women writers, spurred by their love of western literature and writing friendships, met in El Paso, Texas, in what would become known as the first annual Women Writing the West conference. They acknowledged a glaring lack of womens writing groups and womens literature depicting the diverse roles and vast impacts women and girls made in taming the American West. And like the pioneer women before them, these founding members created an organization to support, encourage, and promote female writers who wrote womens and girls stories of and set in the American West. This inaugural meeting, twenty-seven years ago, formed not only the organization we are today but set the tone for what Women Writing the West embodies; a bond of friendship for all writers, nurtured from esprit de corps and the sincere desire to articulate and share the stories of the Womens West through varied writing genres. As a nonprofit organization, Women Writing the West (WWW) offers its members an opportunity to connect with other writing professionals worldwide, engaging authors, editors, agents, writing instructors, and writing advocatesoffering unique opportunities for personal enrichment and professional growth. WWWs mission is to embolden and empower members to network, bond, and further Womans West literature. Writers seeking to advance ...
