9Gauge Partners is searching for a Director of Technical Accounting Services to join our Financial Advisory Services Practice. In this role, you will lead the Quality & Technical Services team of resources for addressing and resolving complex technical GAAP issues for our clients. You will be responsible for overseeing technical research as well as technical policy development and documentation. You will work closely with other members of the firm to develop best practices, policies and methodologies that ensure high quality of service and proactively address assessment and implementation of new accounting guidance and pronouncements.  You will be responsible to ensure proper policy positions are taken on current and emerging issues that our clients might face.

This role will have primary responsibility for identifying and resolving challenging accounting situations for a variety of clients. With little precedent or authoritative guidance, you will need to work with outside advisors, industry groups and regulators to ensure proper positions are taken. This role will also drive GAAP documentation across the organization, including building out robust process and control documentation for all key technical accounting areas. 

This role will also serve as Client Service Engagement Lead or Manager for Financial Advisory Services engagements, particularly in mid-market and enterprise clients.  In that capacity, you will oversee/manage a team of 9Gauge professionals to deliver quality services to our clients. 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Research technical accounting issues and draft accounting policies, maintaining an accounting policy repository
• Stay abreast of technical accounting developments and advise management on developments that may impact the firm and our clients
• Acts as a subject matter expert for complex accounting issues, providing a resource to the firm to provide guidance and resolve reporting issues, including interpreting external technical accounting proposals and pronouncements
• Develop and manage a team of resources to respond to technical accounting matters.
• Assists in directing client implementation of new accounting and reporting requirements across the Financial Advisory Services practice
• Develops and implements accounting policies and procedures to ensure external financial statements are in accordance with GAAP and internal management reporting is consistent with established policies and procedures
• Provides technical accounting support to M&A engagements for transactional due diligence, vendor quality of earnings advisory and purchase accounting.
• Provides support to process owners on the design, documentation, testing and remediation of internal controls related to Sarbanes Oxley compliance
• Develop risk assessment tools and related documentation, providing consultation to clients and client engagement teams
• Engage and manage relationships with outside technical resources as necessary
• Provide periodic technical accounting trainings to the firm
• Manage client engagement teams to deliver high quality and timely deliverables for clients

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
• CPA required
• At least 10 years’ experience with Big 4 or industry related experience in a technical accounting and/or consulting role
• Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP and SEC Reporting requirements
• Experience leading engagements related to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
• Prior industry experience in a specialized technical accounting role, preferably in a public company setting, would be a plus
• Ability to clearly and concisely document and effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting issues to finance and non-finance personnel
• Prior experience with risk assessment and control documentation
• Strong work ethic and ability to be productive and successful in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional attention to detail with ability to identify issues and propose solutions to complex or non-standard situations
• Subject matter expertise in consolidation and investment accounting, including VIE, equity method, and non-controlling interest
• Must be willing to travel 50% of the time -  up to 80%
