Summary

Supports and sometimes leads business development activities and complex analysis of AARP value exchanges, contributing to development of new business relationships and business models for new relationships. Successful contributions will lead to enhancing AARP brand equity in assigned industry, driving AARP member engagement, generating revenue to support AARP’s mission, and enhancing the relevance of AARP to the next generation of members.

Prospecting and Market Outreach: Develop prospect lists, prospecting strategies and conduct outreach to the marketplace. Develop and manage pipeline of prospect/provider targets. Outreach methods will vary by industry and project.  Ability to effectively secure the attention of executive level prospects and build trusting relationships during the business development process. Ability and expertise in making outbound inquiries.    

Represent AARP in the Marketplace: Represent AARP in the marketplace in a highly professional manner. Interactions with all aspects of a prospective organization (Director up to C-Level).  An effective communicator with an executive presence who can clearly articulate the AARP value proposition and quickly adapt to varying and sometimes challenging, situations.  Maintain a relationship as a trusted business partner with prospects and marketplace contacts.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Assists in the development of business opportunities with new and existing companies.
  2. Assists in developing strategic business development plans in consultation with AFI, with objectives and performance measures that benefit both AARP and the prospective provider.  Assists in the implementation and execution, as requested.
  3. Helps to integrate research studies, segmentation analysis, and industry scans in the development of partner business development strategies and plans.
  4. Maintains an effective network of external business relationships.  Monitors leads that come into the organization from a variety of sources, e.g. lead management database, AARP CEO, and other sources.
  5. Assists in the development and implementation of the sales and communication strategy and materials for prospective partner relationships, e.g. “pitch books”.
  6. Interacts and maintains relationships enterprise-wide, as needed for business development opportunities.
  7. Maintains the lead management database and updates the Client Relationship Management (CRM) tool with all business development activities.
  8. Demonstrates One AARP cultural attributes and behaviors in all interactions.
Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • MBA/Graduate degree is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales support, business consulting, marketing or relationship management.
  • Experience at top-tier business consulting firm is a plus
  • Experience working with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
  • A proven track record of successfully meeting and exceeding business development goals and developing strategic relationships.
