Summary

The AARP Federal Health and Family Team seeks a full-time summer intern to assist with work related to the Association’s federal government affairs activities, including issues such as prescription drugs, Medicare, Medicaid, family caregiving, food insecurity, long-term care, and other health related issues. The intern will conduct research on relevant issues, perform communications functions, and assist in organizing and archiving materials.  The intern may design a flexible schedule around classes if necessary, with a commitment of up to 40 hours a week.  The internship has a predicted start date of June through August 2020. 


 

Responsibilities

Working directly with AARP advocates and lobbyists, intern will help staff develop, manage, and communicate about AARP priority issues, particularly health care and caregiving.  Intern will conduct research, compile information, and develop recommendations and material on advocacy issues; develop and manage content for internal staff online sites; meet with internal stakeholders, outside organizations and thought leaders with similar interests to AARP; and prepare material for internal and external communications. 




 

Requirements

Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
