EMPLOYMENT TERM:                FTE 1.0:  According to school calendar

LOCATION:                                  Simmons Elementary School        

 

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Review available medical/audio logical information pertaining to the student’s performance and probable use of hearing; obtaining updated medical/audio logical information and share with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staff.
  • Monitor and coordinate interpreters and their services.
  • Observe interpreters and provide input into their annual evaluation.
  • Monitor interpreter’s after-school interpreting hours.
  • Monitor the condition and use of appropriate amplification equipment for each student.
  • Provide instruction to each hearing impaired student on the class list, as appropriate.
  • Develop lesson plans for implementing instruction.
  • Assist with developing classroom schedules for deaf education students.
  • Work cooperatively with audiologists and families to foster positive relationships.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by hearing impaired children.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement the following specialized areas:
  • auditory training
  • speech and speech reading
  • monitoring amplification
  • use and maintenance of hearing aids
  • use of interpreter
  • total communication
  •  Act as case manager for students involved in the Deaf Education Program.
  •  Maintain schedule, be punctual, and meet assigned responsibilities.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Coordinator of   Speech/Language Services.

 

Education Level:                        
Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education and National Certification for the Education of the Deaf.
 
Experience Desired:                   
Minimum of three years in the field of deaf education.
 

Clearances:
Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
