What does a Human Resources Manager - AK NY do at companies like ABIGAIL KIRSCH?

Responsible for overseeing the Human Resources function for AK Management Contracts and to support CCG in NYC. The HR Manager will work closely with the Senior VP for AK and Managed Clients of AK and the Senior Director of HR to fulfill HR responsibilities and to help to ensure a positive, professional work environment. This role will implement and administer human resource-related policies, programs and practices and will oversee areas including legal compliance, recruitment, staff relations, benefits administration, and performance management. S/he must possess strong interpersonal skills and being a clear communicator is a necessity. S/he works closely with the General Managers of each business in promoting the Company’s Culture, Mission and Philosophy, and ensuring that all processes/procedures are aligned with Elior North America guidelines/standards.

 

 

Qualifications:

-          Bachelor’s degree in related field

-          3+ years Human Resources Management experience

-          3+ years of Human Resources experience

-          Prior hospitality or related experience required

-          Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification preferred.

-          Knowledge of Federal and NY State Legislation related to employment.

-          Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration.

-          Excellent interpersonal skills.

-          Excellent and efficient time management skills and ability to prioritize workload

-          Working knowledge Spanish, preferred.

-          Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff and associates

-          Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form

-          Ability to communicate effectively with associates, management, clients and vendors if necessary.

-          Able to work flexible schedule in order to accommodate business levels.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

HUMAN RESOURCES:

 

  1. Work directly with Department Managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities related to HR matters.  Provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to Department Managers and individuals.
  2. Oversee Associate coaching and counseling and directly perform as needed.
  3. Make recommendations for disciplinary action up to and including termination.  Perform termination function with Department Head or Manager as needed.
  4. For Constellation NY:
  5. Serve as expert resource in NY Labor Law
  6. Provide immediate local support for critical HR ER matters in partnership with BD&A HRM
  7. Provide new unit opening support for the NY Commissary

 

 

RECRUITMENT:

  1. Oversee recruitment and assist managers for hourly and exempt positions.
  2. Working with the Department Heads to determine staffing needs.
  3. Oversee background check and reference process.

 

COMPLIANCE:

  1. Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local legislation pertaining to Human Resources matters.
  2. Implement new policies and procedures based on changes to laws.
  3. Update Associate Handbook as necessary.
  4. Communicate new policies and procedures as well as perform annual notifications (i.e. Medicare Part D, CHIP, EEO-1) as needed.
  5. Respond to Associate Relations issues such as Associate complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints.
  6. Consult with Executive Management, and respond to EEOC and other legal claims as necessary
  7. Ensure OSHA compliance and perform all required reporting.

 

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:

 

  1. Responsible for overseeing the successful completion of the “Train to Success” program for all associates.
  2. Oversee the Performance Management process including critique of all reviews,

 

BENEFIT AND COMPENSATION ADMINISTRAION:

 

  1. For Skylark:
  2. Administer all benefits programs including medical, dental, 401(k), AFLAC and Qualified Transportation Expense.
  3. Conduct open enrollment, claims resolution, and change reporting.  Communicate changes to various programs to associates as necessary.
  4. Approve invoices for payment.
  5. Research and identify new benefits programs and implement as needed.
  6. Oversee Unemployment including processing of claims
  7. Oversee Workers Compensation process including processing of new claims, managing current claims and acting as a liaison with insurance carrier.
  8. Oversee short-term disability claims including processing of new claims and acting as a liaison with insurance carrier.

 

ASSOCIATE RECOGNITION:

 

  1. Work with unit GM’s to implement associate relations programs. Supervise and act as a resource to the HR Manager in the completion of various Company activities including, Manager of the Quarter, Caught in the Act program, 15 Minutes of Fun, and Holiday Party.
  2. Oversee Service Award Program.

 

 

 

 

 

 

TRAINING:

 

  1. Conduct New Hire Orientation as needed.
  2. Oversee and coordinate annual trainings including, CPR/First Aid and Harassment Free Workplace.
  3. Work with Banquet Department to ensure Associates are TIPS certified as needed.
  4. Work with individuals to determine various training needs; research classes and offer suggestions.
  5. Conduct Quarterly Manager Training.
