RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Continues the implementation and enhancement of the Bridgeport Public Schools' Talented and Gifted Program which promotes the general intellectual ability, academic and creativity of all identified TAG students
- Establishes individual learning objectives for each student in the Talented and Gifted Program.
- Collaborates with School's teaching staff in order to provide enrichment activities closely correlated to existing grade level curricula.
- Pursues and maintains community participation and learning opportunities for TAG students.
- Assists in the identification of TAG students.
- Develops programs such as (athletics, book club, drama club, mathematics/robotics, mentoring and tutoring) which will provide opportunities for all students to engage in thought provoking discussions, higher-level thinking and enhanced learning.
- Experience in the development of high rigor, extracurricular programs for elementary students such as foreign language acquisition; i.e. Chinese language and culture.
- Experience in the development of leadership programs for elementary students such as student government.
- Ensures, by using a range of teaching styles and questioning techniques that there is sufficient challenge in the teaching of students.
- Maintains and enhances communication and collaboration with parents, students, and the community.
- Provides professional development in all aspects of gifted education to other staff as required.
- Serves as the Coordinator for the National Urban Alliance-Feuerstein Project, Yale's Book Choice Project and the University of Bridgeport Partnership Liaison and/or other projects or partnerships as deemed appropriate.
- Arranges and participates in educational field trips and arranges for educational programs for the entire school community.
- Pursues ongoing professional development opportunities in gifted education.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Required Certification: 902 Bilingual and Preferred: 973 General Science, 974 Integrated Science; Master's degree preferred
- Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred
- Experience in talented and gifted education desirable but not required
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
- Thorough knowledge of current research and effective teaching practices
- Demonstrated ability to use assessment and other student data as a means for making instructional decisions.
- Experience working/collaborating with a university community preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to complete reports as assigned and to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to the department team concept and the overall success of the organization.
- The demonstrated ability to provide consistent attendance and punctuality.
