Overview

The Speed Art Museum is Kentucky’s largest art museum with a collection that spans 6,000 years of human creativity. An independent museum located on the campus of the University of Louisville, the Speed has recently undergone a multi-phase expansion and renovation that includes a new North Building, state-of-the-art Cinema, Art Park and a public piazza. Job Skills / Requirements

Responsible for the graphic design and overall creative direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with the Museum’s brand identity and strategic goals. Works cross-departmentally on exhibition design, B2B and B2C marketing/advertising materials, as well as digital collateral. Manages vendor relations and bids jobs to ensure that the Speed is getting the best pricing.  Manages and mentors the graphic designer and graphic design intern.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversees the graphic designer and graphic design intern.
• Assists CMO with budgeting and reporting
• Communicates and works with outside agencies, art services, vendors, etc.
• Designs across multiple platforms: print, digital, signage, and environmental graphics.
• Takes the lead in developing creative ideas for marketing projects.
• Collaborates with all departments, including curatorial, cinema, education, development, special events, and Museum Store, working with the Design Manager to determine project goals and timelines.
• Ensures consistency to the Museum’s brand across platforms and design projects.
• Leads project management for the design team.
• Assists in giving feedback to design interns.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

• BFA in Graphic Design or equivalent required
• 2-4 years design experience preferred

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Extensive use of telephone and computer throughout the workday.
• Sits, reaches, walks, climbs, and lifts intermittently throughout the workday so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Communicate using English language.
• Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., of twenty-five (25) pounds throughout the workday
• Able to adapt to and work from various locations so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Willing, as necessary, to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and remains accessible when away from the Museum so the requirements of this position can be fully met.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time exempt position. This position is NOT eligible for overtime pay.
