Founded in 2008 by Carrie White, GUM Studios quickly established itself as a multi-location film stage & equipment rental facility with production capabilities in the New York Metropolitan Tri-State Area. In 2019 GUM launched the Industry City stage complex branch - A level 2 Qualified Production Facility composed of three locations, six studios with many offices, and support spaces. The complex consists of over 50,000 sq feet of soundstages and green rooms, including a 10,000 sq ft affiliate's equipment rental house. GUM attracted big names such as Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, Drew Barrymore, Robert DeNiro, Miley Cyrus to Project Runway, and Food Network's Worst Cooks to name a few. GUM was also the first studio to implement the Virtual Production XR Stage in New York City. GUM Studios caters to production companies, advertising agencies, video photographers, designers, and large tv/film productions. Some of our spaces are Level 2 QPF. New York State Film Production tax credit program requires all applicants to shoot some portion of their principal photography at an approved soundstage, known as a New York State Qualified Production Facility (QPF). Threshold requirements for filming at a QPF vary by size and type of production. We've built our studios out to be film & photo-friendly. We offer expansive and versatile spaces at different sizes perfect for any shoot. We are proud of our great reviews and excellent customer service. IMG_7284.jpg

What Skills Does a person Need at Gum Studios?

At Gum Studios, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Multimedia: Multimedia is a computerized method of presenting information combining textual data, audio, visuals (video), graphics and animations.
  2. Media Production: Media production is the art of visual storytelling through film and sound. Types of Media production are Film, Television, Internet Video, Radio and Music.
  3. Video Production: Video production is the process of producing video content. It is the equivalent of filmmaking, but with images recorded digitally instead of on film stock. There are three stages of video production: pre-production, production, and post-production. Pre-production involves all of the planning aspects of the video production process before filming begins. This includes scriptwriting, scheduling, logistics, and other administrative duties. Production is the phase of video production which captures the video content (moving images / videography) and involves filming the subject(s) of the video. Post-production is the action of selectively combining those video clips through video editing into a finished product that tells a story or communicates a message in either a live event setting (live production), or after an event has occurred (post-production). Currently, the majority of video content is captured through electronic media like an SD card for consumer grade cameras, or on solid state storage and flash storage for professional grade cameras. Video content that is distributed digitally often appears in common formats such as the Moving Picture Experts Group format (.mpeg, .mpg, .mp4), QuickTime (.mov), Audio Video Interleave (.avi), Windows Media Video (.wmv), and DivX (.avi, .divx).
  4. Photography: Photography is the art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. The result with photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which is later chemically "developed" into a visible image, either negative or positive depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the method of processing. A negative image on film is traditionally used to photographically create a positive image on a paper base, known as a print, either by using an enlarger or by contact printing.
  5. Graphic Design: Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem-solving through the use of typography, photography, and illustration. The field is considered a subset of visual communication and communication design, but sometimes the term "graphic design" is used synonymously. Graphic designers create and combine symbols, images and text to form visual representations of ideas and messages. They use typography, visual arts, and page layout techniques to create visual compositions. Common uses of graphic design include corporate design (logos and branding), editorial design (magazines, newspapers and books), wayfinding or environmental design, advertising, web design, communication design, product packaging, and signage.
