Description
The Independent Living Supervisor (ILS) is responsible for seeking creative and alternative ways of defining and meeting the needs of people with developmental disabilities who live in non-certified, independent settings. The ILS will be responsible for providing supports to service recipients, as well as all aspects of direct supervision of designated staff.
Position Standards:
• Seeks alternative and creative ways of defining and meeting the needs of people with developmental disabilities who live in non-certified, independent settings.
• Provides supervision, mentoring and oversight to staff, during all hours of Community Habilitation services (on call). Specifically, the management and supervision of all staff operating in the Community Habilitation Mews Hub.
• Full time, flexible, on-call coverage as necessary. Hours are according to program requirements.
• Participates in recruiting and selection of potential Community Habilitation Staff through community contacts in collaboration with the human resource department.
• Coordinate staff meetings; participate in meetings and committees as necessary.
• Reviewing Community Habilitation dailies and monthlies to ensure accurate completion in a timely manner.
• Works with all Abilities First Inc. Departments and other agencies, fostering an approach of teamwork to improve the quality of Community Habilitation services as well as the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities.
• Provides direct Community Habilitation services to enrolled participants as needed to provide back-up and substitute services, when other supports do not exist.
• Maintains timely, appropriate documentation in English, as required by oversight agency and service program.
• Provides assistance to enrolled participants in the management and oversight of their finances.
• Attends and participates in Life Plan/Com Hab team meetings and writes coordinating Staff Action Plans.
• Supports the agency’s mission and vision.
• Coordinates, completes and follows-up on the NYS DSP Core Competencies to staff, as outlined by our governing oversite agency.
• Ensures all required trainings and certifications required are current, and seeks further support and training where needed.
• Adhere to agency Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, and ensure that Staff follows the same, which requires all employees, consultants, board members, volunteers and affiliates to perform their responsibilities according to ethical and legal standards with honesty, integrity, fairness, good faith and respect for others and the law.
• Follows all agency policy and procedures and demonstrates continuous regard to personal safety and the safety of others.
• Performs other appropriate job related activities as requested by your supervisor or as circumstances warrant.
• Will incorporate CORE concepts of CQL’s person-centered excellence by respecting people’s concerns and responding accordingly and will use “teachable moments” to assist people in understanding and exercising their rights.

1. Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, squat, bend the knees, pivot and grasp with both hands (in order to properly and safely perform the techniques taught in CPR/First Aid, behavior intervention techniques, and lifting and carrying techniques).
2. Lift individuals by using appropriate techniques, including but not limited to usage of tools to assist, such as the Hoyer Lift.
3. Assist individuals in ambulation by providing physical assistance, including use of a gait belt or other equipment where necessary.
4. Have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
5. Have the ability to push, pull, and maneuver adults in wheelchairs.
6. Possess verbal and written communication skills, in English, to ensure adequate regulatory documentation.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Minimum three years’ experience working with adults with developmental disabilities. A combination of education and experience, which in the view of the Director qualifies the individual, may be acceptable.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience required.
• Must have a current NYS driver’s license, free of moving violations; deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier.
