Abilities First, Inc., a CQL accredited organization, has been making a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities for over fifty years. Starting out as The Little Red School House in 1962, Abilities First, Inc. has evolved into the Hudson Valley’s premiere provider of support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. We offer a variety of services including school and preschool programs, day habilitation, residential habilitation, community habilitation, and employment services.


The Assistant Coordinator will assist the Coordinator in daily operations and programming at the Day Hab Center. This program has a strong emphasis on community integration. Responsibilities include working with staff to develop and implement meaningful activities that help people maximize their personal and vocational potential as well as meeting the day-to-day direct care of the participants. Activities may include both community outings including transportation, as well as in-house activities such as arts and crafts, and teaching basic life skills. The Assistant will be responsible for directing the center operations in the absence of the Coordinator.


Position is Monday through Friday, 7:45 - 3:30 pm

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field and minimum one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Combination of education and experience deemed appropriate by the Program Director may be acceptable.
  • Responsible for lifting, transferring, and maneuvering adults receiving services.
  • Certified in, or have the ability to become certified in, SCIP-R, Med Cert, CPR & SFA. All training is provided!
  • Computer skills required including experience in goal writing and implementing individuals' program plans.
  • NYS driver’s license (for 3 or more years) that is deemed “acceptable” by our insurance carrier is required for driving positions.
