Abilities First, Inc., a CQL accredited organization, has been making a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities for over fifty years. Starting out as The Little Red School House in 1962, Abilities First, Inc. has evolved into the Hudson Valley’s premiere provider of support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. We offer a variety of services including school and preschool programs, day habilitation, residential habilitation, community habilitation, service coordination and employment services.
The philosophy of the Quality Assurance Department is to Teach, Assist, and Support the employees and teams that provide services to all of our individuals. The Quality Assurance Coordinator will incorporate the department’s philosophy in every aspect of their job performance. The Primary focus of the Quality Assurance Coordinator in this role will be Investigations
The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for monitoring overall service provision throughout Abilities First’s children and adult programs in accordance with Abilities First’s Philosophy and Policy, our Corporate Compliance Plan, and the various State Oversight Agencies that monitor Abilities First. Monitoring activities will enable the Quality Assurance Coordinator to identify areas of strengths and best practice and areas in need of improvement. Some of the areas of improvement that the Quality Assurance Coordinators will focus on are; quality of life concerns, regulatory noncompliance, and / or procedural irregularities that impact upon the quality of services.
The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for providing program staff with training, guidance, and technical support. While not every possibility can be listed the following are some areas where the Quality Assurance Coordinator will teach assist and support. Those areas are reporting of events in accordance with OPWDD regulations, what to expect during an investigation, the function of the Justice Center, service delivery, documentation, and developing corrective actions to issues and maintaining compliance with regulations and agency philosophy and policy. The Quality Assurance Coordinator will assist with drafting compliance reports, plans of corrective action and / or correspondence to agency administrators and / or State Department representatives are prepared in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Administrative Supervisor or the Chief Compliance Officer and Department Directors as required and / or directed. Additionally, the Quality Assurance Coordinator participates in various agency committees and liaison activities with local and state agencies as required and / or directed.
