Job Description

Purpose:

• To support in-house US legal department of global asset manager, Aberdeen Standard Investments.

Qualifications:

• Must be a first year student of ABA accredited law school.
• Financial experience/undergraduate degree in finance-related field preferred, but not required.
• Desire to work in legal profession with focus in financial services industry following graduation from law school strongly preferred.
• Must have strong oral communication skills, have good organizational and management skills, and be able to interface with and between members of the US Legal department and other internal business departments.

Description:

• Support in-house legal department with various projects, including assisting with SEC filings, reviewing meeting minutes and shareholder reports, summarizing recent legal and regulatory developments in the financial services industry, and drafting internal memoranda on various legal issues.
• Receive exposure to legal issues involving registered funds, private funds and corporate and securities law , including, among others,  the Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, Commodity Exchange Act, and ERISA.
• Interact and participate in meetings with internal company departments, external law firms and stakeholders. 
• Report to one member of the US Legal team, but will receive work from and work with all members of the US Legal team.

Workload Management:

• Work within deadlines as may be set by external or internal client departments.
• Develop relationships with members of the US Legal department and other internal business departments.
• Interact, where appropriate, with external counsel and business departments to resolve any issues or difficulties.
